How do I manage my billing and subscription?
Buy credits, change your subscription, and manage payment methods through the billing portal.
All billing actions are available in Settings > Billing. Only the team Owner can view and manage billing.
Buying Credits
Credit packages are one-time purchases - they never expire and stack with your existing balance.
To buy credits:
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- Under Buy Credits, select the package size that fits your needs. Larger packages have a lower cost per credit.
- Click Purchase.
- Complete checkout via Stripe. You can use any major credit or debit card.
- Credits are added to your balance immediately after payment is confirmed.
Purchased credits are consumed after your monthly subscription credits are exhausted, so they act as a permanent buffer that carries over indefinitely.
Subscribing or Changing Plans
To start a subscription or move between plans:
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- Click Change Plan.
- Select the plan (Free, Starter, or Pro) and billing cycle (monthly or annual).
- Click Subscribe or Switch Plan.
- Complete or confirm payment in the Stripe checkout.
When upgrading, the new plan takes effect immediately and you are charged a prorated amount for the remainder of the current billing period. When downgrading, the change takes effect at the start of the next billing cycle - you keep your current plan’s features until then.
To cancel your subscription, select Free as the target plan. Your paid features remain active until the end of the period you have already paid for.
Managing Payment Methods
Payment methods are managed through the Stripe billing portal, which keeps your card details secure and outside of UpCanary’s systems.
To update or add a payment method:
- Go to Settings > Billing.
- Click Manage Payment Methods.
- You are redirected to the Stripe portal where you can add a new card, remove an existing one, or set a default.
- Return to UpCanary - your changes are reflected immediately.
You can also download past invoices from the Stripe portal.
Current Subscription Status
The top of the Billing page shows:
- Current plan - Free, Starter, or Pro
- Billing cycle - monthly or annual
- Next renewal date - when your subscription renews and credits reset
- Credit balance - current total across all credit types
If payment fails, UpCanary will retry automatically and notify the Owner by email. Monitors continue running for a short grace period while the payment issue is resolved.
